Family happy to having missing pet Kapone home for the holidays

(WMC-TV) - His life might have been tough for the past six months, but Pit Bull Kapone is being pampered and protected now that he is back home.

Tuesday night, Brook Shoup was reunited with Kapone, her pet for 11 years.  Friday, Kapone was out for a spa day in East Memphis.

"I didn't think I would ever see him again," said Shoup.

Kapone disappeared six months ago after Memphis Animal Shelter employee Demetria Hogan picked him up.  Kapone never made it to the animal shelter.

After a Crime Stoppers tip, Kapone was discovered this week in Senatobia, Mississippi.  The homeowner said the missing dog wandered up.

Shoup said Kapone is in pretty good shape and has lost weight.

"Eating a lot more than he used to," she said.

Kapone has some cuts on his face and part of his body.  Shoup said they likely came from him scratching himself.

"The doctor put him on antibiotics for some heart congestion," said Shoup.

Shoup's neighbor and owner of the pet spa Kendra Gurren took over when she found Kapone was missing.

"I thought the only thing I could do was post on Facebook," said Gurren.  "I had friends who could do something.  I had no idea it would be this big."

Shoup said her family was happy to have Kapone home for the holidays.

"It really is the best Christmas present I could ever ask for ever," she said.

Kapone is getting a new bed and a bone for Christmas.  Police are still trying to find out how Kapone ended up in Senatobia.
