Gunman who killed Cordova father still loose

(WMC-TV) – Police are trying to solve a Christmas Eve murder mystery, a Cordova father found dead outside his apartment.

Police are trying to determine what prompted the shooting and who murdered the husband and father.

Investigators need help tracking down the person who gunned down the man in the 8100 block of Forest Park North.

"It's just weird," said Nick Harrington , whose neighbor was killed. "Someone had to have known whoever did it, especially for him to open the door because I don't think the cops said anything about forced entry."

Police haven't released the name of the victim, but we're told by neighbors, he was a family man.

"He was a good guy," said Harrington. "He didn't seem like he was involved in anything."

On Christmas Eve, Harrington learned his neighbor had been shot twice, his body was found lying on these steps. The magazine of the gun used to kill him was just feet away from Harrington's front door.

"I actually had to park across the street to get to my house," he said. "A cop had to actually escort me across the field. As soon as I walked to the door there's a clip to the gun at my door so I knew something happened."

Neighbors said the victim was a father of a two little girls and a had a baby boy on the way.

It's a tragedy that has left many residents like Harrington, who is also expecting a child, on guard this holiday season.

"Here in the next 16 days I'll be having a little boy myself, so this isn't a place I really want to bring him home to," he said. "I don't want this place to be called home for him anyway."

So far police have not made any arrests. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
