Investigators believe elderly woman's death was murder

(WMC-TV) - Police in Clarksdale, Mississippi said Thursday they are exploring new leads in the murder of 73-year-old store owner Yuk Lee.

Police believe Lee was ambushed as she left her store around 7:30 p.m. Monday on her way to her house right next door.

Lee was struck in the head with a blunt object and left laying in the yard.

Initially, police thought the motive was robbery and the robbers panicked, struck Lee, and left the money behind.

A coroner's report revealed disturbing details about a crime that was more brutal than it first appeared.  The cause of Lee's death was blunt force trauma, but she had also been stabbed in the back.

The official autopsy has not been released, but Coroner Scotty Meredith said Lee's death was not an accident, but murder.

As the investigation continues, police said they cannot elaborate on whether they are closing in on a suspect.

Family members and loyal customers said they hope an arrest will come soon.

Lee's body was discovered in her yard Tuesday morning.  Police did not reveal how much money was left at the crime scene.
