Basketball court shooting injures Memphis man

(WMC-TV) – (WMC-TV) – A 20-year-old man was shot on a South Memphis basketball court Friday afternoon, according to police.

Investigators say the victim was at South Side Park, near South Parkway and McMillan Street, when he was shot just before 3 p.m.

The victim's bloody clothing and shoes were still on the court after he was transported to the MED in critical condition.

Officers said the suspect was last seen wearing a multi-colored Starter jacket.  There is only a vague description of the suspect.

Family members said the victim was known as "Little O" in the neighborhood.  They rushed to the park when they heard he had been shot.

"It's a shame, it's a shame," said Donna Dixon, the victim's cousin.  "That's all I got to say."

Witnesses said several children were in the park at the time of the shooting.

"When I got out here, he was just laying on the ground," said Dixon.  "He was calm.  He wasn't upset.  He was just laying there."

It appeared that the victim was the intended target.  Witnesses said several shots were fired.

Dixon said she does not know the suspect.  Witness Brandon Sanders said he is shocked to see a serious crime take place around young children and teenagers.

"This never happened," said Sanders.  "I stay out here some times."

Several witnesses were interviewed, but police said there is no updated information about the suspect.
