Debate over rent forces furniture store's stock into parking lot

(WMC-TV) - A Shelby County furniture store was evicted Friday, leaving thousands of dollars in furniture tossed out in the parking lot.

Millennium Home Furnishings and its landlord, IMA, are in a heated legal battle over the rent.  The debate took a turn Friday, forcing the store's inventory into the parking lot.

While crews scurried to relocate the merchandise, store owners took advantage of excess foot traffic by selling merchandise at half price.

"You have people that are trying to steal what's out here," said Charlie Fineberg with Mid-South Subpoena Service.  "They've even tried to steal Christmas ornaments off the trees."

Code enforcement eventually forced movers to haul everything into a back alley, but not before some shoppers benefited from the ongoing disagreement over rent.

"I don't need anything, but you know how that is," said shopper Jennifer McKissick.  "Great deal, so I had to take it."

Millennium Home Furnishings' owner declined an interview, but said that the furniture is destined for a large-scale overstock sale at his other location.
