Woman makes plea to man who stole her disability check

(WMC-TV) - A disabled woman is desperately searching for the man who stole her money after she dropped it on a convenience store floor.

Police said the suspect told another customer who found the cash it was his, knowing full well it was not.

"I think it's dirty for anybody to do anybody that way," said Ruth Ann Millican.

Millican stopped by the M&T Market in Berclair after cashing a $620 disability check.

"It happened so fast," she said.

Surveillance video from inside the store shows a wad of cash accidentally fall to the floor from Millican's coat as she walked through the door.

Minutes later, another woman noticed the money, picked it up, and asked a customer at the counter if the cash was his.  He said yes and quickly grabbed it.

"It was not his money," said Millican.  "He knew that."

Millican discovered her money was gone just as the suspect left the store, pursued by her, the store owner, and his brother.

"I'm very hurt over this stuff because this is all we got," said Millican.

Millican and her 44-year-old daughter are both disabled.  She said she is confident someone will recognize the man who stole her money.

She said she would even agree not to press charges if he had a change of heart.

Witnesses described the suspect's car as a 1980's model Monte Carlo with a primer coat of paint.  They said it had Mississippi plates.
