(WMC-TV) - The news has been a long time coming for Sadie Coleman, but now she's one step closer to finding out what happened to her beloved daughter.

Memphis police positively identified the remains of 51-year-old Valois Jones Dunlap Monday and her mother is breathing a sigh of relief.

"I was very pleased because I need some closure and these children need some closure," Coleman said.

Dunlap was last seen on December 31, 2008. She was on the way to pick up her grandkids from school.  Dunlap was later reported missing on January 2, 2009.

"She just vanished out of sight," Coleman said. "We never heard anymore, but her car was burned the same night that she disappeared."

On Thursday, November 17, 2011, officers recovered human remains in an apartment in the 600 block of East McLemore. The skeletal were eventually identified as Dunlap's through DNA testing.

"I'm a Jehovah's Witness and we be in that area everyday knocking on doors talking to people about the Bible," Coleman said. "So evidently I've knocked on that door many times in three years and I didn't know her bones was in there."

And three years later, Coleman said she and Dunlap's grandchildren are still left with a lot of unanswered questions.

"We've been dealing with it," she said. "It's been hard for me because I have to keep control for the kids.  They keep asking when is she going to return. So, at this moment, they're thinking they're going to hear about her returning. They don't know what's going on."

Coleman said she's still holding on to hope that authorities will be able to find out exactly what happened to her daughter, but investigators haven't yet determined a cause of death.
