No timetable for Mayor Greg Davis' return, officials say

(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has taken a vacation, but city officials said they do not know where he is or when he will return.

"I don't know where he is," said Southaven Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem Greg Guy.

Guy said Wednesday he does not know when Davis is returning.  Guy said he last say Davis December 20 when the board met.

"He said before our last meeting we had before Christmas he was going to take some time off," said Guy.

Davis took his leave December 27.  Action News 5 has learned the mayor notified human resources at Southaven City Hall that he was taking a leave.

Attorney Steve Farese, who Davis contacted, said he could not say where Davis was.

The Mississippi State Auditor is investigating Davis for $170,000 worth of purchases made with taxpayer money.  Davis has paid back almost $100,000, but still owes more.

Guy is acting mayor while Davis is out of pocket.  He said the city is operating smoothly with department heads running their departments.

City Administrator Chris Wilson is also helping to run the city.  Wilson said he does not know where Davis is and has no timetable for his return.

The Mississippi State Auditor's Office confiscated Davis' computer and his assistant's computer as part of the investigation.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is not releasing any money to Southaven while the investigation is going on.
