(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South family desperate to get their pet beagle back home hired a search and recovery team.
Beth Lee hired a Kentucky team that specializes in finding missing persons. In certain cases, the team will help search for missing animals, like Sofi.
Jennifer Jordan Hall, a Harvard Law School graduate, now dedicates her time to help law enforcement agencies search for missing people.
Hall's team helped search for victims after a massive tornado in Joplin, Missouri in May 2011.
"We use scent specific dogs to find missing person, and at times, search for missing dogs under special circumstances," said Hall.
Lee has been searching for Sofi, her tri-colored beagle, for nearly a month after burglars ransacked her Cooper Young home and left the door open.
"I still feel like Sofi's alive," said Hall.
After hearing success stories, Lee contacted Hall who traveled to Memphis with her terriers, Remy and Scott, to track down Sofi.
"From sun up to sun down, the dogs followed her trail," said Lee.
Lee said Hall's two terriers independently tracked down Sofi's scent to an abandoned house at the corner of Barksdale and Felix. The scent stopped at the vacant house. Lee said that is where the search went cold.
After seeing the success story of Kapone, lost and found after six months, Lee said she found new hope.
"I cried when I saw the news articles," she said. "I have to feel that way, I have to know that because we have to keep looking for her."
Hundreds of flyers have been posted and Lee is now offering a reward.
"We haven't listed a specific dollar amount, but I can assure you that Sofi is far more valuable to me and my family than to anyone else," said Lee.
