Home of suspect in Christmas Day murder burns down

(WMC-TV) - The family home of a fugitive wanted for murder burned down Friday night.

Rico Fleming is wanted in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting of 16-year-old Derica Patterson in Marshall County on Christmas Day.  The home at 3595 Price Road in Moscow, Tennessee caught fire around 10:00 p.m. Friday.

"911 received a call to home of 3595 Price Road, which is going to be the mother's home, the mother of Rico Fleming," said Inspector Raymond Garcia with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Fleming is listed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation top 10 list of most wanted fugitives.  His last known address was this home in Moscow.

"You could see flames broiling out the windows of the house," said neighbor Nicholas Smith.

Smith lives across the street and said he did not know who lived at the home until after the fire when a neighbor mentioned Fleming.

"She had mentioned the guy from the top most wanted being out there and I was like, 'wow,'" said Smith.

Just days prior, Smith said he heard gunfire near the home that did not sound like hunters.

"It wasn't just like a boom," he said.  "Somebody unloaded a gun."

Investigators said Fayette County does not have their own arson team.  Monday, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal will be in Moscow to further investigate the fire.

Garcia said no one was in the home at the time of the fire.
