Memphis authorities say when Jessie Lee Swain was supposed to be in court for violating a protection order, he instead went to his ex-girlfriend's work and shot her.
Swain is held on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
Witnesses told police Swain came to the apartment complex where Veronica Shanta Beamon was arriving for work yesterday and shot her in the head twice.
Police say as Beamon lay wounded, she wrote Swain's name on a piece of paper and fellow workers gave it to police. Beamon is in critical condition at the Regional Medical Center.
