Arkansas AG sues Jonesboro asphalt company

(AP) - Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel is suing a Jonesboro-based asphalt company that he says provided substandard paving services to consumers.

McDaniel on Tuesday announced that he had filed the lawsuit in Craighead County Circuit Court against Moore Asphalt LLC, also known as Williams Asphalt, and owner Henry Williams of Jonesboro. The lawsuit seeks restitution and civil penalties.

The lawsuit claims the company engaged in deceptive door-to-door sales tactics to convince consumers to sign contracts for paving or repaving driveways. McDaniel's office said the company did not apply the asphalt at the thickness they promised and that the pavement rapidly disintegrated.

The lawsuit accuses the company of violating the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the Home Solicitation Sales Act.

The company did not immediately respond to a message left Tuesday.
