(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man is behind bars after getting a little too lucky on lottery tickets.

An Express Mart just off Shelby Drive is advertising a job after clerk Charles Piggs was arrested for embezzling from the business.

Investigators say Piggs scanned scratch-off lottery tickets and collected the cash from the winners.

The Tennessee Lottery security desk realized too many non-winners were being scanned and the store discovered shortages from Piggs' shifts. The store was short $744 on January 2, $1,202 on January 3, $425 on January 4 and $1347 short on January 5, including one big lottery payout in the sum of $1,208.

On January 6 Piggs called in sick and eventually came clean about hitting it big on anything but a gamble.

According to court records, he told his bosses he'd taken between $4,000 and $6,000.

Piggs is locked up at 201 Poplar after accumulating a small fortune, but eventually coming up snake-eyes.

Piggs may have to hit jackpot to get out of jail. His bond has been set at $2,000.

He goes back to court on January 24.
