Suspect arrested in deadly Christmas drive-by

(WMC-TV) - Rico Fleming, a man on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Most Wanted List, has been arrested. It's a story we've been following since Christmas and Action News 5 was the first to tell Fleming's alleged victim's family about his capture.

The family of 16-year-old Derica Patterson jumped for joy when they heard the news they had been waiting weeks for.

"That's a big relief," said Carole Dye, Patterson's mother. "You done made my day, okay? Yes ma'am. I'm excited."

The teenager's aunt, mother and grandmother were all elated.

Rico Fleming, 22, was on the TBI's 15 Most Wanted List. He is a suspect in the Christmas Day drive-by killing of Patterson in Marshall County, MS.

Fleming was captured in St. Louis by the U.S. Marshall's Service.

"We were saying ‘I can't believe he's still on the run all this time,'" said the murdered teen's aunt Lucinda Patterson. "Somebody's got to be helping him."

The exact circumstances of Fleming's capture have not yet been revealed by investigators. He has a lengthy arrest record in Fayette County, including two previous shootings.

The latest arrest follows the arrest of the two other suspects 16-year-old Christopher Collins and 31-year-old Corey Albright who was picked at his home in Bartlett.

Fleming reportedly told his aunt he would not be taken alive, but he was and that's what Derica Patterson's family wanted to hear.

"You just made my day," said the teen's mom after hearing the news. "We are excited. You made my day. I was just talking we need closure."
