(WMC-TV) - An hours long police stands off puts part of Memphis on lockdown and ends with a takedown caught by an Action News 5 camera Tuesday night.

The police standoff shut down a major Memphis road for hours and put businesses on lockdown tonight after a man allegedly trying to kill himself.

It was a tense situation at Covington Pike and Stage Road as Memphis police talked a man out of killing himself and possibly hurting others in the process.

For hours the man had been threatening to harm himself while he sat in a truck with several guns and a gas tank.

Around 30 police officers responded. They were backed up by fire trucks as three negotiators worked to end the situation peacefully.

Along with shutting down the busy intersection, area businesses were on lockdown in case of stray shots or an explosion.

When the man finally threw his remaining gun out of the truck, he walked away from it with hands up. The Memphis Tact Unit is now searching the truck to figure out what brought the man to this point.
