Suspect holds up Memphis barbershop

(WMC-TV) - A man with a gun burst into a Memphis barbershop Thursday and held up customers who were waiting to get their hair cut.

No one was hurt, though some did lose personal property at the barbershop on Waring just off Summer Avenue.

"Seeing that the barbershop got robbed in the daylight, that's kind of strange for this neighborhood," said customer Mike Donnell.

The barber pulled his own gun and fired a single shot at the suspect, but it did not connect.

Richard Miller was not at the barbershop at the time of the robbery, but showed up for a haircut soon after.

"Yeah, that's where I go," said Miller.  "He does a very good job.  I've been going in there for years."

Miller said he would come back again and was grateful time was on his side.

"I'm glad I didn't get robbed," said Miller.

The robber, dressed in a jean jacket, jeans, and a dark mask, has not been identified.

Police have only a vague description of the suspect, but witnesses told them he took off running across Waring toward Tutwiler through an empty grass field.

Investigators said customers were shaken by the experience.

If you can help solve this case, police ask you to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
