Cordova video game players aim for world record

(WMC-TV) - A group of local video game players are attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for the longest, non-stop multi-play of a game.

The world record attempt happened at PowerPlay video game store in Cordova.

The current record is 32 hours, seven minutes and 54 seconds.  This group plans to play Super Smash Brothers Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube for 40 hours.

One of the contenders, Chris Cole, said they are doing it for the love of the game and to inspire.

"Push forward," said Coles.  "If you think you can do something or you want to do something that you think is really important in your heart, just go for it.  Do it, don't care what anybody else says or thinks."

The cutoff is around 9:00 a.m. Monday.
