Former firefighter found guilty in murder of ex-fiance

(WMC-TV) - A former Memphis firefighter has been found guilty of first degree murder in the shooting death of his ex-fiance.

Frank Graham confessed to killing Taffi Crawford in 2010 in the parking lot of the Delta Medical Center where she worked.

Graham said that day, he borrowed his neighbor's white Ford Taurus, "so she wouldn't know his car."  He said he was trying to catch her cheating with a fellow firefighter at IHOP.

Prosecutors said the conviction comes with an automatic life sentence.

"Justice was served," said friend of the family Evette Porter.  "We can't bring Taffi back."

Crawford's family and friends left the courtroom in tears Monday evening after the verdict was read.

"We don't have her anymore," said her aunt, Ruby Tinnon.  "It was not right to take her life.  Now he don't have the right to live his life."

It took jurors just over an hour to reach the verdict.  It took almost another hour before it could be announced in court because Graham's defense attorneys had a flat tire on the interstate.  A sheriff's deputy picked them up.

Prosecutors hugged Crawford's mother, who said she was too emotional for an interview.

Prosecutors said they hope the verdict sends a message.

"Hopefully people will think and not react violently and keep the peace and not have so many deaths," said prosecutor Missy Branham.
