Driver charged with DUI in deadly crash

(WMC-TV) - A former Arlington High School baseball player has been charged with DUI after a weekend crash that killed his passenger.

Both young men were 21 years old.  The driver survived the crash.

Blake Rosenberg's Ford truck was towed from Interstate 40 Sunday morning hours after it left the roadway and landed upside down in a ditch.

Rosenberg's friend seated in the passenger seat died at the scene.

Rosenberg's family gave friend Deborah Robinson permission to speak with Action News 5.

"They're very sorry, very sorry," said Robinson.  "I mean, they're trying to cope with everything and are devastated right now.  And they need time."

Robinson said she did not know where Rosenberg and his friend were heading Sunday morning.  Rosenberg told officers on the scene he fell asleep behind the wheel after admitting to drinking alcoholic beverages earlier before the crash.

Memphis police have yet to release the name of the friend who died in the crash.
