Dodd accuser told it was too late to file complaint

(WMC-TV) – Memphis police have decided not to pursue an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by former Amateur Athletic Union director Bobby Dodd.

Ralph West told ESPN he was assaulted by Dodd in Memphis and in Florida.  He worked under Dodd at a Memphis YMCA when the accuser was a teenager.

Tuesday, the Memphis Police Department confirmed there will not be an investigation because a complaint was not filed.

West said Wednesday the only reason he has not filed a complaint is because he was told by the police department that too much time has passed since the alleged assault for him to make a complaint.

West is still accusing Dodd of sexually molesting him as much as 30 years ago.  West said he could file a complaint in Florida because he said the assaults took place there as well.

West said he is checking to see if too much time has passed in Florida, as well.  He said he is not making these claims to get money.  West said he wants people to know what he, and he said other young boys, went through as teenagers because of Dodd.

Dodd has not been charged with a crime and has maintained through his attorney that he is innocent.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
