Ronnie Grisanti brings Italian cuisine to Stella Marris

(WMC-TV) - A controversial Cordova restaurant is going Italian as Memphis chef Ronnie Grisanti is going to work at Stella Marris.

Ronnie Grisanti's at Stella Marris will be the new name at Stella Marris, the restaurant and dance club opened by Steve Cooper.

Stella Marris has been plagued with rumors it would be a strip club because Cooper owns many strip clubs.  Grisanti may be the name of approval that shuts that talk down.

Grisanti showed Action News 5 one of the two kitchens he and his crew will be working out of.  He said the facilities are nicer than he has ever dealt with.

Grisanti, who owned Ronnie Grisanti and Son's, will operate the restaurant that will serve the Tuscan cuisine he is known for.

Cooper's contract with Grisanti has been in the works for more than a year.

Grisanti said persistent rumors Stella Marris would eventually be a strip club do not bother him.

"I've never been in one and I wouldn't work inside of one because ... I don't believe in it," said Grisanti.

Cooper said he patterned Stella Marris after an upscale restaurant and club in Arizona.  Stella Marris will continue to be a dance club after 10:00 p.m.

Grisanti said the decor at Stella Marris is fantastic and he already has friends who plan to bring their families to eat.

Ronnie Grisanti's at Stella Marris is scheduled to open at the end of the month.  Grisanti said he will eventually start serving lunch.
