Quake wall to protect Pyramid in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Engineers have planned a 30-foot-thick concrete wall to protect The Pyramid in Memphis from the possibility of a major earthquake.

The project comes after studies show the west side of The Pyramid could move toward the Mississippi River in a quake, while the east side remained in place, according to The Commercial Appeal.

The wall will cost $$7.18 million and construction is expected to begin in about six weeks.

The wall will extend the length of 2 football fields and go down 130 feet into the soil.

Construction of the wall was agreed upon to allay Bass Pro Shops' concerns about converting the structure to a retail sporting goods store.
