Argument over chicken leads to attempted stabbing

(WMC-TV) – A man eating dinner at a bus stop was assaulted by a man armed with a knife, according to Memphis police.

Jerome Walton told investigators he was at Poplar and Danny Thomas around 5 p.m. Sunday when a man carrying a large knife walked up to him and began arguing over his chicken dinner, according to court records.

Walton said he was able to disarm who swung the knife at him twice, investigators say.

Walton was injured during the scuffle, but police his 54-year-old attacker suffered a chin injury and lost several teeth.

Michael Barner has been charged with aggravated assault. He's currently being held on $2,000 bond.
