Costs may be more than expected for Mid-South school

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - The bids for the building of a new high school in Oxford haven't even been awarded yet, but city school leaders are already looking for ways to cut the costs.

The voters approved a $30 million bond issue for a new high school in 2010.

But building estimates are exceeding the estimated budget for the high school.

Based on the estimated costs of the project, the price to build the high school complex as initially presented has soared to $37.5 million, while the cost to construct just the basics would be $31.6 million.

School officials tell The Oxford Eagle they will have a better idea as to what the community can afford to build once construction firms turn in bid proposals.
