Valero offers $25k for information about employee's murder

(WMC-TV) - Valero put up the largest single cash reward for Crime Stoppers in hopes of catching a suspect who murdered an employee who worked for the oil refinery.

Leonard Davidson, a husband and father of two, was shot and killed January 20.

"We just need someone to come forward right now," said Major Stan Eason with the Memphis Police Department.

Police said Davidson was seen running on North Montgomery around 4:00 a.m. that day, banging on doors and pleading for help.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a gray pickup truck pull up behind him.  A man got out and shot Davidson dead.

"The gunman is described as male black, light complexion, medium build with long, straight hair," said Eason.

Police said Davidson was on his way to work at the Valero plant at the time.  A longtime employee, company officials said Davidson worked as a control room operator.

"Our employees are our greatest asset," said Al Philippus with Valero Energy Corporation.  "Truly, our company backs it up in everything that we do."

Crime Stoppers was offering a $1,000 reward.  Thursday, Valero pitched in $25,000 more for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

"Somebody out there knows everything, and that's the somebody we want to respond to this," said Buddy Champion with Crime Stoppers.  "If you saw something, if you know something, if you heard something, come forward."

Valero put up reward money when an employee was murdered in San Antonio in 2002.  Police arrested a suspect within two days.

If you can help solve this case, call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
