Suburban mayors invited to school transition meeting

(WMC-TV) - Suburban Shelby County mayors are being invited to meet with the unified schools' Transition Planning Committee to discuss reinventing education.

TPC will discuss their plans with the mayors - many suburbs are looking into creating their own school districts to avoid the Memphis City-Shelby County Schools merger.

According to the Commercial Appeal, suburban mayors - as well as Memphis Mayor A C Wharton - are all invited to the February 16th meeting.

Past meetings have discussed other U.S. school systems - such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg in North Carolina that merged their city and county schools.

On the Commercial Appeal's website a poll asked if the TPC is doing a good job communicating to the public - 72 percent of the voters said no.

A related article to the poll said the TPC and the unified school board committed to ambitious efforts to communicate to the public what they're trying to some extent permeated last week's tumultuous Collierville stop on the listening tour.
