Stars of Action News 5 Super Bowl ad need good homes

(WMC-TV) – We have a behind-the-scenes look at the four-legged stars of the Action News Five Super Bowl ad and most of the dogs are up for adoption right now at the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.

They licked. They sat. They ran on command. But the superstars of Action News 5's Super Bowl ad don't live a glamorous life.

Their temporary home is the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County and they all have a story.

The Humane society's Alexis Amarose said Vanessa, a sweet, black dog had been hit by a car.

"Her pelvis was shattered" said Amarose. "She wasn't able to walk."

But Vanessa is better and she has a lot of love to give.

By the time Playboy, a brown dog with a great grin, stole a microphone from Andy Wise a bad case of mange was all healed up.

Koko, Piglet and Myrtle created chaos on cue in our newsroom, but they're low key in the kennel they share.

Beckam was found injured at a soccer field.

"He had a pretty bad gash right there on his leg and some cuts all over his face," said Amarose.

Now he's healed and as handsome as the soccer player he's named after.

Chico can't predict the weather, but he loves the camera, on the set and off.

Maxiumus is one of three lab mix puppies from an abandoned litter, who fell in love with Andrew Douglas.

Samba, who's part Great Dane, was quite a natural as Ursula's fill in co-anchor.

Some of the other dogs seen in the ad are the pets of Action News 5 staff members.
