(WMC-TV) - A man trying to avoid having his car towed was arrested after he allegedly hit a Memphis police officer with his vehicle last week.

Christopher Donovan's car was being towed in downtown Memphis at Second and Court for unpaid parking tickets. He claimed he had paid all of the citations and shouldn't have his car towed.

According to a statement given by a witness, Memphis Police Officer David Jensen tried to explain several times to Donovan that his car was being towed based on a new city ordinance.

Donovan attempted to drive off and the car door hit Jensen in his left arm, according to court records.

Investigators say Donovan's reckless behavior could have cost the officer his life.

Donovan's been charged for reckless endangerment.

The officer wasn't seriously injured during the incident.
