(WMC-TV) – A Mid-South High school teacher was charged with trying to hit his wife with his truck Friday and he was back in the classroom Monday.

Deputies arrested Munford High School physics teacher Dalton Huffman Friday night and charged him with aggravated domestic assault. He got out of jail on a $1,500 bond and was back at school teaching Monday.

"It's pretty bad, a teacher trying to run over your wife," said Munford resident Pam Dumbreck. "I kind of wonder what he is doing with the students."

Huffman is charged with domestic aggravated assault. Investigators say the charge stems from an incident Friday night at his home in Gilt Edge. His wife told deputies he tried to run over her with his truck. She was not injured.

Ellen Huffman, the alleged victim in the case, said she isn't pleased the incident happened. But she said it is a private matter. She said her husband would never hurt any of his students and he is a well liked teacher.

"Somebody that violent and you are teaching children to be a productive citizen and you're not a productive citizen, so why should you be teaching children," asked Karsunder Carson, who has two children who attend Munford Middle.

The Tipton County school superintendent said he is aware of the charge, but at this point, it does not look like there will be any action taken against him concerning his job.

Huffman will back in court on February 24.
