NBC launches iPad-only series

(WMC-TV) - NBC will debut a new iPad only series called Hidden Planet as a part of the free Rock Center iPad app starting Feb. 8 - the show will be hosted by Richard Engel, NBC News' chief foreign correspondent.

The monthly documentary series marks the first time NBC, or any other network, will debut content on the tablet before any other platform. Episodes will launch on the iPad application and appear one week later one its rockcenternbc.com website.

NBC said Engel leads viewers on tours of "awe-inspiring, rarely seen locations around the globe."

Engel is not an iPad user himself but thinks the idea of the digital format is great.

"Since Rock Center launched last fall, we've seen that our audience is both watching the broadcast on-air and viewing our stories online and via mobile devices," said Rome Hartman, Rock Center with Brian Williams executive producer, in a statement."Richard Engel's Hidden Planet is a captivating and fascinating addition to our offerings."
