Ark. Gov. Beebe will look at GOP budget proposal

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Ark. Gov. Mike Beebe says he's concerned about the consequences of a Republican plan to cut $21 million from agencies' budgets, but said he'll take a look at the proposal.

Beebe said Thursday he's told agency directors to tell him by early next week what programs they would have to cut under the plan.

Republican lawmakers on Wednesday presented Beebe with the budget proposal.

Beebe said he's worried about the proposal calling for using surplus money to pay for part of the increased funding needed for Medicaid. He also called a three percent cut for 11 agencies "rather arbitrary" since it doesn't spell out where the agencies would have to cut.

The house on Thursday again delayed a vote that would allow them to move forward with Beebe's proposed budget.
