MY TURN: Danny Thomas made a difference

(WMC-TV) -

If you ever doubt the idea that one person can make a difference, you need only remember the story of Danny Thomas and his mission to create St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Thomas is being honored this week with his likeness on a U.S. postage stamp. The honor comes as the hospital celebrates its 50th birthday this month.

Postal officials say they're excited about the stamp because it will share the entertainer's inspirational life story and make more people aware of the lifesaving work being done at St. Jude.

You may be familiar with this powerful story.

Danny Thomas prayed to St. Jude to help him find his way in life, and in return, Thomas promised to build St. Jude a shrine.

In the 1950's, the TV star crisscrossed the country raising money to build the hospital, at one point reportedly visiting 28 cities in 32 days.

It's an understatement to say that Thomas has made a difference in the lives thousands of people, and that number will only grow larger in the days ahead.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
