(WMC-TV) - A former Memphis police officer was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to felony conspiracy and bribery charges.

FBI agents made secret recordings of then Memphis Police Lt. Tim Green accepting bribes from the owners of Club Visions.

A judge sentenced Green to 50 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay a $10,000 fine.

An MPD undercover operation shut down the club in early 2010.  While it was going on, Green provided the club owners sensitive information to try to help them avoid closure.

Prosecutors said Green was paid $8,400 total after continually negotiating a higher price for himself.

In part because of the evidence against him, including more than 100 recordings FBI agents have in this case, Green pleaded guilty.

At his sentencing hearing, Green apologized to his family, the court, the city, and his fellow officers, saying, "I apologize for my actions.  I chose to do the wrong thing.  I knew it was the wrong thing at the time."

Over the past six years, federal prosecutors in Memphis have jailed more police officers than any other district in the country.  Federal agents said they are serious about these crimes and hope this sends a message to others.
