Southaven residents again call for Davis to step down

(WMC-TV) - At Southaven's concerned citizens meeting Thursday, hands were flying as residents were still upset that Mayor Greg Davis maintains he has done nothing wrong.

The main goal of these meetings is to remove Davis from office.  Citizens are working on a petition that they admit is a long shot, but they hope Davis hears their message.

"Our goal is in the short run get him out of office," said Southaven resident Tony Garner.  "We don't want him as mayor anymore, and he needs to know that."

Residents said Davis is wrong if he thinks he still has the support of the residents.

"I think he's under a misconception," said Southaven resident Carol Grishen.  "For some reason, he still believes that he has the support of Southaven residents.  I think this petition should show that he doesn't."

Earlier this week on Action News 5, Davis maintained he had done nothing wrong, saying in part, "There has never been any intentional charge to the city of Southaven for any personal use."

"That's a lie," said Garner.  "They have receipts of him going to Canada.  He made Jay Leno just for the reason he was spending money for personal reasons."

Southaven Aldermen George Payne and Ronnie Hale took a beating from residents who assigned them part of the blame.  They were the only two aldermen who attended.

Alderman Greg Guy said Thursday he will not be running for reelection and will instead focus on his banking career.
