(WMC-TV) – A 13-year-old boy is expected to recover after he was shot in the leg Monday night. Now his father is on the run after witnesses told officers he was the one who pulled the trigger.

Victor Boyd, Jr., was shot inside his Frayser home.

"I seen him hit the floor," said K.D. Stackz. "He crawled to where we was at and there was a trail of blood."

Another adult objected after Boyd, Sr., hit one of his children "kind of hard but in a playing manner," according to a police report.

Boyd, Sr., left, but returned a short while later and approached the other adult again.

And asked: "so you tell me I can't hit my kids?"

Relatives say Boyd, Sr., was wearing a hoodie, kept his hands in the pocket and fired two shots without even taking the gun out.

Boyd, Jr., was caught in the crossfire.

"He didn't deserve to be shot," Stackz said. "He ain't even got nothing to do with the situation."

Another bullet left a hole in the floor.

There were other children in the room at the time, including another son nine-year-old James Lee Boyd.

"You just hear," said Boyd, who scattered for safety. "I started running to my grandma's room. We got in the closet. We got down."

No one else was hurt.

Boyd, Jr. is recovering from surgery at Le Bonheur.

After the pulling the trigger, Boyd, Sr., ran away leaving behind a house full of sons, daughters and family members who were shaken by the shooting.

Boyd Sr. remains on the loose and faces multiple aggravated assault charges when he's caught.
