Ark. lawmakers moving closer to budget draft

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas lawmakers are moving closer toward drafting the state's $4.7 billion budget, but a procedural hurdle remains.

House leaders say they expect to vote Thursday on a resolution approved by the Senate that would allow Gov. Mike Beebe's budget to be introduced. The House approved an identical measure Wednesday, but 1 of the resolutions has to be approved by both chambers.

Senate leaders were unsure whether they would vote on the House measure Thursday.

Work on the budget stalled as House Republicans pushed for more cuts in Beebe's spending plan. Republicans are a minority in the Legislature, but hold enough seats to block his budget from being introduced.
