Four charged with attacking woman over tax return

(WMC-TV) - Police say a woman was assaulted because of her tax return.

Charles Morris, Sr., 91, has been a neighborhood activist his whole life.  When he drove up to his North Memphis home on Alaska Street earlier this week, he made it his business to find out what was going on in front of a family friend's home.

"I saw all the police cars and everything, and when I parked the car in the carport, I walked across the street to check to see what was happening," said Morris.

At the time, Shuntina Heard, Curtis Banks, Lonzayres Hines and Al Hines were being arrested.  The woman who lives in the home told Morris the four were not there for a friendly visit.

"Kicked the door in and threatened her," said Morris.  "They were pushing the lady's son around.  Say he was trying to talk to them, but they was pushing him around."

Morris said the four people wanted a cut of the woman's income tax refund check for a preparation fee they said she owed.

"The tax people wanted $800 of that $1,700 check," said Morris.

Police arrived before anyone could be seriously hurt.
