Dispatcher meets plane crash victim she helped save

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man who survived a Valentine's Day plane crash was visited Friday by the woman who helped save his life.

Dispatcher Lisa Brown's words calmed plane crash survivor Greg Huggins for the hours he was stuck upside down in his plane in the Monroe County, Mississippi woods.

"I told him he was going to have to calm down, because he was in a bad situation and it wouldn't make it any easier if he got all upset," said Brown.

During their call, Brown said Huggins was getting more and more frustrated, gasping for breath and hyperventilating as he waited for help.

"I wanted to see the voice that I was talking to," Huggins said.

Huggins was still in Memphis at the MED, so Brown decided to take a day off from work as the head dispatcher at the Itawamba County e-911center.  She drove to Memphis to meet Huggins.

"I said, '911, what is your emergency?' and his eyes just lit up and he just grinned from ear to ear," said Brown.  "He sort of got a little teary eyed and he hugged our neck."

Brown said she has mad a lifelong friend.  She said Huggins plans to visit the crash site and the place where she brought comfort when he was in need.

Huggins was on his way from Olive Branch from Ocala, Florida when he crashed.  He apparently ran out of gas.
