(WMC-TV) - Covington police have a man behind bars after the city's second murder in just two weeks.

The stabbing happened outside the Thrifty Mart at the corner of Peeler and Simonton.

"Hurt, hurting thinking about him," says the victim's grandmother Joann Williams.

Twenty-three year old Chris Somerville was stabbed to death Sunday night.

He graduated from Covington High School in 2007 and was considered a basketball star.

Witnesses say Somerville walked out of the store and died in his front yard, which is right next door.

"They need to close that store down, that's what the need to do, that's where everything happens, at the store," adds Williams.

Neighbors say Somerville and his friend Dexter Mosley got into a fight inside the Thrifty Mart.

Mosley is now charged with voluntary manslaughter.

People who spoke to Action News 5 the night of the stabbing say this area is known for its high crime.

"We got a major drug problem right here in the store, this is where all the killing and stuff is going on, right here in the vicinity and they need to get on it," says neighbor Robert Frost.

Just two weeks ago, Somerville's cousin Orlandus Cobbins was found shot to death inside his car just blocks away from where Somerville died.

Members of Somerville's family say they too are afraid to live in the area.

"My son, he's 24, he's over here, I feel for my grandchildren, and my daughter, my son too," says Williams.

Neighbors say they believe Somerville's death isn't gang related, just a simple fight gone bad.
