(WMC-TV) - Two Memphis police officers were injured Tuesday when a suspect tried to run them over on a college campus.

The suspect is still on the run as the two officers recover from their injuries.

"It was a lot of excitement," said witness Timothy Randle. "We don't get a lot of action around here."

Randle still can't believe what happened in a Remington College parking lot around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

"We were in class going over a lesson," he said. "I saw a guy had a young lady on the car. It looked like he was kneeing her. That's when I notified my teacher what was going on and proceeded to get the officers."

According to investigators, two off duty officers were working security when they noticed the domestic situation.

"When the officers tried to assist, the man attempted to run the officers over, and at that time, the officers engaged the suspect and fired shots," said Alyssa Macon-Moore, of the Memphis Police Department.

The shots knocked out some of the windows in the suspect's vehicle, which was described as a tan Acura.

"They warned him before firing off shots, but he didn't listen," Randle said. "He hit the gas. They fired shots and he peeled off on Nonconnah."

One officer was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition. The other was treated on the scene.

Investigators have not said if the victim or suspect are students at the college.

If you've seen the suspect or have any information that can help authorities, call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
