Widow of motorcyclist killed in hit and run wants answers

(WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching for a hit and run driver accused of killing a motorcyclist Monday.

Malcon Rodgers' widow, Mildred Rodgers, said she wants answers.

"Before he left, we kissed each other," said Mildred Rodgers.  "I said, 'be safe,' and that's the last time I talked to him.

Mildred Rodgers described her husband as a perfect companion.  The couple married last May.  She said Malcon Rodgers was like a father to her three daughters and four grandchildren.

Monday, Malcon Rodgers died on Third Street near Raines in front of an auto parts store after a man driving a truck ran into him as he rode his motorcycle.  Police said the driver then took off.

"If he could do anything for you, he would go out of his way," said Mildred Rodgers.

Mildred Rodgers said she arrived at the crash scene in shock, hoping it was not her husband.

"You know how you go, this is not happening, this is not happening," she said.

She said she look down and saw her husband's shoe.  Police then told her to go to the MED.

"He was just gone," said Mildred Rodgers.  "Just like that."

Mildred Rodgers said police know who was driving the truck, but they have not located him yet.  She said the area where the crash happened is dangerous and she would like to see red light cameras at the intersections.

"We just don't know what we are going to do," she said.  "He was just that important for our life, for everybody's life."

Mildred Rodgers said she is hoping someone knows where the man is who was driving the truck.  She asked that they contact police.
