Congressmen call for hearing on Mo' Money

(WMC-TV) - Congressman Steve Cohen is among those asking for a hearing on Capitol Hill into Mo' Money Taxes.

Complaints from Mo' Money Taxes customers have been an issue for weeks.

"That's worthless," said customer Lavita Akin.  "The woman told me at the bank it don't even exist."

Accusations include no tax refunds, bounced checks, and fees taken from customers' accounts without their permission.

"These are tax returns from the federal government," said Cohen.  "That shouldn't be a problem."

Unfortunately, it has become a major problem.  Cohen said enough is enough.

"There are congressmen who are concerned about their constituents, and particularly with an IRS issue that we will continue to try and get to the bottom of the matter and see that justice is served, whatever the case may be," said Cohen.

Virginia Congressmen Bobby Scott and Scott Rigell along with Bennie Thompson of Mississippi wrote the chairman of the house judiciary subcommittee calling for a hearing.  Cohen and others have also asked the Department of Justice to investigate Mo' Money Taxes.

"We had a feeling they were looking into it, but it could have been the IRS and FBI," said Cohen.  "I can't really go into exactly what it was."

Word on a hearing could come as soon as later this month.
