(WMC-TV) - The University of Memphis Tigers cruised to their second Conference USA tournament under head coach Josh Pastner Saturday.
The Tigers cut down the nets for the second straight season with a dominating 83-57 win against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Memphian Joe Jackson led five Tigers scoring in double figures with 19 points. The top-seeded Tigers claimed their sixth Conference USA tournament championship. Jackson also claimed his second straight tournament MVP honor.
"We always felt like all along that we were going to win it, and we did," said Will Barton, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds. "I always thought we wanted to be dominant, we didn't just want to win it. We wanted to run through it, like steam roll everybody, leave no doubt that we're the best team in the conference."
The Tigers have won seven straight games, all by double digits.
"We just feel like we're the champs, man," said Ferrakohn Hall. "It's conference U of M. We just ran our conference and that's what we're supposed to do. We have a lot of really talent players on this team."
"I'm so proud of these guys," said Pastner. "To win 20 of 23 games, where there was a little negativity early in the year, people were doubting us, this and that. To be able to win 20 of 23, they deserve to throw Gatorade on me and a water bath on me."
Tigers fans big and small made their way out of the FedEx Forum Saturday afternoon. Fans said they never doubted their team would be crowned Conference USA champions.
The Tigers will find out where they are heading in the NCAA tournament at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
