(WMC-TV) – Three squatters were busted by neighbors for selling drugs out of an abandoned house after neighbors had enough and fought back.

The homeowner said he was shocked to learn a bold band of homesteaders inhabited and sold drugs out of his investment property for six months.

But now, the three men inhabit a jail cell.

"They would jut boldly sell drugs right in front of you," said one neighbor who didn't want her identity revealed.

She is one of several neighbors who say the trio of squatters seized her neighborhood off Jackson Avenue.

"It makes me feel very insecure," she said.

After neighbors complained to police, officers rounded up Chuck Bernard, Terence Canada and Timothy Flemmons from two homes on Rockford Avenue Sunday night.

Police say they found ecstasy, crack rocks, meth, a crack pipe and stacks of cash on the men and in an outbuilding behind the homes.

Terence Canada was also charged with letting his dogs run loose.

Neighbors say if anyone got in the way of these interlopers, they were threatened with violence or even held at gunpoint. The men also created a dumping ground and left behind disarray, garbage and what neighbors say is a big mess inside the home.

For half a year, neighbors thought the men were renters. But police called the owner of both homes Sunday and found he had no idea anyone was in his properties.

"I think they kind of ran over me a little bit," said the home's owner Clifton McElmore.

But McElmore promised no one would turn his homes into dope dens ever again.

"I'm going to move in here myself," he said. "Nobody is living here but me for a while. I'm going to clean it up.

"It took citizens, people on this street, calling the police to get rid of the drug dealers," he said.

All three men are due in court Tuesday. They face various drug charges.

Flemmons tried to run and was also charged with evading arrest.
