Suspect in fatal Jackson shooting violated parole

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Court records show a man accused in a fatal Jackson nightclub shooting could have been jailed on a parole violation before the shooting happened.

Travis Steed was arraigned Monday on charges of aggravated assault and being a felon with a handgun in the Karma Lounge shooting on Feb.26. One person died and several were wounded.

The Jackson Sun reported that the state Board of Probation and Parole didn't immediately issue an arrest warrant after Steed was charged last year in another crime.

Police had arrested Steed on drug and arrest evasion charges Dec. 30 - counts that would have allowed his arrest for parole violation.

Board spokeswoman Melissa McDonald said the board is looking into why a warrant wasn't issued until March 7.
