Crooks on run after 12 burglaries in Horn Lake, Southaven - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

Crooks behind 12 burglaries on the loose

(WMC-TV) - Investigators in North Mississippi are searching for some cash business burglars, who literally broke through walls to get money.

Suspects went after strip shopping centers so that after they broke into one business, they could knock out the wall leading to another looking for cash.

They cut phone and surveillance wires to cover their tracks, but if you take a look at our video on Action News 5 at 6, you'll see that they missed one that got a pretty good look.

Slashed security wires, pried metal doors, busted locks, and damaged sheet rock- all were left behind from a dozen weekend break-ins in Southaven and Horn Lake, Mississippi.

"When you hit that many you end up at the end of the day with a lot of cash, I'm sure," said Horn Lake Detective Scott Evans.

Surveillance video from a nearby business showed a silver Nissan that pulled up behind the Xtra Cash building in broad daylight.

A Southaven Police Detective pointed out that it took less than a minute to break open the door.

Nearly all of the targets were in the business of handing out cash. Inside, the damage looked the same; fresh sheet rock was in place where the crooks crawled from building to building on their rampage.

"They kicked through the walls, went through the next door got a few things there, and then kicked through the wall again," said Ryan Temple at Third Union Finance in Horn Lake.

Temple said he deposits cash from the building each night. He estimated that all that damage got the thieves a grand total of $10, others weren't as fortunate.

"Some up into the couple of thousands," Evans said.

Investigators think the suspects have had plenty of practice.

"It actually sounds like they know what they're doing and they've done it before," said Evans.

It may not be the getaway car's first rodeo either.

"This vehicle description and stuff has been seen in some other East Tennessee burglaries, similar burglaries. So we're looking into that and other agencies that may have been hit by these same individuals," Evans said.

If you know recognize the suspect or vehicle in our video, you're urged to contact North Mississippi CrimeStoppers at 662-429-TIPS (8477).
