(WMC-TV) – The University of Memphis Tigers are in Columbus, OH, getting ready to play Saint Louis University on Friday.

Fans young and old arrived early for the team's big send off.

The Pom Squad was also there, and for some girls, it's the end of their cheer career.

"It's kind of a bitter sweet moment, but it's a great way to end the year," said Katrina Lavine, of the U of M Pom Squad.

It was also a bitter sweet send off for R.C. Johnson. After 16 years as the school's athletic director, this tournament will be his last.

"I have no regrets; it's time," he said. "We're looking forward to this last hoorah and hopefully we last another month."

Coach Josh Pastner and the team arrived a little late after squeezing in some practice time. Pastner said his team and their opponents were both slighted.

"Us and Saint Louis deserve to be seeded a little higher," he said.

In fact, Pastner said his guys are on a streak and playing like a number one seed.

"The way we played the last seven games, I think we're playing as well as any team in the country," he said.

As the team greeted fans and boarded its plane, Pastner said the Tigers will head into the tournament taking it one team at a time.

"Everyone's healthy," he said. "Tarik's good to go. Adonis, we're going to go by feel and flow of the game. But he's a key guy and we're going to need him to play well. Our whole focus is Saint Louis. We know how good they are and we know we have to play a great game if we want a chance to beat them."

And with that, the Tigers took off for Columbus with hopes of busting brackets.

Action News 5's Carrie Anderson is in Columbus and will have live reports starting Thursday.
