(WMC-TV) - Media mogul Tyler Perry was presented with a star on The Orpheum Theatre's "Sidewalk of Stars" Thursday.

"None of this would have been possible without your love and support," Perry told the crowd.  "I'm grateful for every one of you.  I thank God for you."

"What people don't know in Hollywood is that you guys have been with me from the beginning," said Perry.  "When nobody would give me a chance or even knew my name, it's people like you who put me in this situation.  I appreciate it.  Thank you so much."

The event also included a proclamation from Memphis Mayor A C Wharton's office and a special gift presentation by the National Civil Rights Museum.

During his career, Perry has achieved international success as an actor, director, screenwriter, playwright, producer, author, and songwriter.  His signature character, Madea, is a loveable, wise-cracking, gun-toting grandmother who helped spawn a series of plays with set the stage for Perry's jump to the big screen.

"Please continue to pray for me," said Perry.  "I'll pray for you as we travel the country doing what I love to do best, and that's encourage, uplift, and inspire people."

The national touring production of "Madea Gets a Job," starring Perry, will be at The Orpheum Thursday through Sunday.
