(WMC-TV) – Neighbors say they've called one Cordova home "the ammunition house" for years and when it went up in flames Friday morning, an explosive firefight followed.

Home video rolled as a fire set off the gunfire that woke up Walnut Bend Cove.

"It wasn't even like a fireworks show," said Randy McAllister, who lives nearby. "It was just like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom."

A rapid succession of explosions kept firefighters at bay.

"It was extremely dangerous," said Larry Harmon, a Memphis Fire Department battalion chief.

Originally our camera wasn't allowed within a block-and-a-half of the scene.

Neighbors say the homeowner refills ammunition "for the government" and that they'd worried about a fire at his house for years.

In fact, McAllister said neighbor's referred to the home as "the ammunition guy's house."

"We prayed that it would not happen, and we thought it would be worse when it did," he said.

McAllister lives across the street and collected bullet casings from his front yard.

Homeowners Harry and Peggy Davis declined an interview.

ATF Agents are investigating the case while Memphis firefighters search for the cause of the fire.

But there is good news.

"The main thing: everybody is safe," said Harmon.

And that's a relief to a neighborhood rattled awake by the sound of flying bullets.

Late Friday afternoon, ATF agents were only willing to say their investigation is ongoing and that no charges had been filed.
