NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Opponents of a Republican Senate redistricting plan filed suit against the proposal Friday, saying the GOP majority ignored proposals made by the Legislature's Black Caucus, an attorney said.

Bob Tuke, attorney for the opponents and a former state Democratic Party chairman, told The Associated Press the suit to halt the plan was filed in chancery court in Nashville. A copy of the lawsuit could not be obtained Friday because the courthouse was closed.

The lawsuit names Republican Gov. Bill Haslam and state elections officials as defendants. Other plaintiffs include Rep. G.A. Hardaway, who was drawn together with another Memphis Democrat in the GOP plan.

Haslam spokeswoman Alexia Poe declined to comment on the lawsuit.
